This compact program offers you the chance to explore Manu National Park’s cloud forest ecosystem. Attractions include the daily mating ritual of Peru’s national bird, the cock-of-the-rock. For birding enthusiasts without the time for a longer Peruvian Amazon program, the 3 day / 2 nights Manu Cloud Forest tour is an excellent option.
After picking you up from your hotel, we will begin our drive through the Andean landscape south of Cusco, visiting pre-Inca Lupaca culture burial towers before arriving at the picturesque typical Andean village of Paucartambo, the main attractions of which are the local church and the colonial-era Carlos V Bridge. From Paucartambo we will continue to Acjanaco Pass (12,630 ft / 3850 m), the entrance to Manu National Park. From here the road descends into the fascinating cloud forest environment that is home to a rich variety of fauna and flora. This forest is home to hundreds of bird species, including the cock-of-the-rock, blue-crowned motmot and golden quetzal. We will spend the night at our Paradise Lodge (4,821 ft / 1,470 m).

Our first full day at the Lodge begins before breakfast with a walk in the surrounding cloud forest to observe the daily ritual of the colorful cock-of-the-rock. Groups of males perform a remarkable collective display in order to attract females. After a good breakfast we will have more time to explore the forest around the lodge, and it is also possible to visit fruit plantations and meet local farmers. This is also an opportunity to enjoy some bird watching. Local species include quetzals, motmots, golden tanagers and orange-eared tanagers. Additional activities offered at the lodge include mountain biking and white water rafting on the Kosñipata River (not included in the cost of the program). We will spend our second night in our comfortable Paradise Lodge.

This is our final day in the cloud forest. After an early breakfast there will be time to explore the forest trails maintained by the Lodge before beginning the return journey to Cusco. After reaching Paucartambo we will take another route, following the course of the Quencomayo River and entering the Sacred Valley of the Incas. During our walk in the valley we will visit weaving and farming communities before returning to Cusco, where we will transfer you to your hotel.
