TAMBOPATA
Deep in the tropical forest we find the Tambopata National Reserve, a remote corner of the world rich in fauna and flora. Tambopata is one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet, a place where one can breathe the peaceful air and be in contact with nature. Situated in southeastern Peru, nestled in the foothills of the towering Andes in the department of Cusco and the lowland forests of Madre de Dios, Tambopata is visited all year round by nature lovers, scientists, researchers and journalists, all of whom marvel at its innumerable natural wonders.
About our Libertador Tambopata Lodge
The Buildings
Designed to harmonise with the forest, the lodge’s buildings are constructed from local materials which enable them to blend well with their tropical setting. The "style" can be described as rustic, comprising wooden, palm-thatched, screened cabins. Candles and lamps are used after dark, making for a relaxing natural ambiance. Solar energy has been introduced into the lodge’s suites and for administration building lighting, the maintenance of batteries for radio communications, and in the kitchen area for food preparation.
The Guides
Our naturalist guides are resident year round and are on hand to introduce you to the marvels of the rainforest. During a typical day at the lodge our guides bring the forest to life by pointing out the important trees, flowers, medicinal plant remedies and assisting in sighting and identifying birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies and other insects. In the evening short lectures are scheduled which deal with specific rainforest subjects and give a chance to delve further into the marvels of this ecosystem.
Our trails
Trails leading from the lodge compound are constantly being maintained and are being developed further to ensure safe and maximum access to the different habitats. The lodge boasts 25 km of trails in total, including those to the lake systems of Condenado and Sachavacayoc, situated on the opposite bank of the Tambopata River.
Tours
We offer unlimited lodge-based programs. However the principal programs are of three and four days’ duration. Longer visits of five, seven or even ten days can also be arranged.
