Machu Picchu through the Sacred Valley

During this four day tour you will visit the Inca capital of Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s, the salt mines of Maras and the agricultural terraces of Moray as well as the legendary lost city of Machu Picchu. If however short on time, there also is the option for a day tour to Machu Picchu

On the first day of the tour you will be picked up from the airport / bus station in Cusco (3400 m) during the morning and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon you will be taken on a city tour to see the Cusco highlights of the central cathedral, Koricancha (the temple of the Sun) and the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Pucapucara and Tambomachay at 3600m for approximately 3h.

Sacred Valley Full Day Tour

On the second day you will be picked up early in the morning from your hotel for your program in the Sacred Valley of the Inca’s. We will drive for 1h to the picturesque town of Pisac, famous for its local market, where we will have an hour to buy souvenirs and explore the town before continuing our journey to Ollantaytambo (1.5h drive), where we will have two hours to visit the ruins of the fortress. Afterwards we will return to Cusco via the small town of Chinchero.

Sacred Valley Tour Half Day

The third day will start with a 45 minute drive to the ruins of Moray located at 3498 m above sea level. The full purpose behind these concentric terraces is not fully know, however it is widely believed that these ruins were once an agricultural laboratory used by the Inca’s. When arriving we will have 45 minutes to hike and visit the complex before continuing our journey (15 min.) to the Maras salt mines situated at 3018 m above sea level. Here you can do a 3 km downhill hike through the salt mines from 3018 m to 2846 m (1.5h). Afterwards the car will bring you back to Cusco.

Full Day Machu Picchu.

Early in the morning the van will pick you up and bring you to the train station along with the guide. From the train station you will take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, located at the foot of Machu Picchu. After arriving in Aguas Calientes you will take the bus up to the ruins. Here you will make a three hour guided visit to Machu Picchu (2460m) before returning to Cusco in the afternoon (4h) by expedition train and transfer to your hotel.
